Halloween/Anniversary Pictures

It is customary to publish a photo album after each official Bubbly Bare gathering. I would like to start preparing as soon as possible so please send me your approved pictures. Although all picture albums are placed in the secure area of the web site there are some who do not wish to have their pictures published so make sure that all members appearing in your pictures have approved publication. I will assume that all members in a group shot are ok with publication since the rule is "if you don't want your picture published, don't get in the picture".

Farewell To Summer

Farewell to summer. Nature blessed us with one more beach day yesterday Oct,4th. This might not mean very mucy to you Floridians or Californians or other warm country inhabitants but to us in the north east it was a bonus. What a beautiful day at Lighthouse Beach on Long Island with good people. Bloody Marys and Bagels w/cream cheese and lox, a smorgasbord of delights for lunch, Wine, Tequila, a variety of desserts and the list goes on and on. Did I mention pulled pork w/ mayonnaise/wasabi dressing? Tequila?Oh well, I think you get the message. Thanks to all who have made this weekend getaway such a pleasant happening throughout the summer of 2009.

Scholarship Fund

I have been a regular at Hedonism 2 for over 28 years, and I have enjoyed the hospitality of the Island and I feel it is time to give something back. Many groups have already started scholarship programs to help the employees of Hedonism 2 with their children financially and I feel it is time for us to give back.

With this in mind I think the Bares should start a scholarship program to benefit the children of the employees of Hedonism 2. I want to begin the program by donations, rather then raffles. Each year we will choose an employee with a child to donate the funds Having two trips a tear with the Bares, the pot could be considerable, possibly have enough to make a few donations.

I would like feedback from the Bares. Even at a minimum of $10.00 per person, we could do well. Please leave me feedback on this idea, I don't want to start something large scale and be embarrassed.

Optional Dress Beach Advocates

Occasionally our beaches are threatened by attempts to close them to optional dress. Gunnison Beach at Sandy Hook and Lighthouse at Robert Moses State Park on Fire Island are two of the most popular beaches in the northeast. Most recently threats against Lighthouse have come up and a web site has been put up for those who wish to offer support. Bares and friends,

Shirley and I are finally home in Davidson. As most of you seem to have heard through the Bubbly Bare grapevine, I Barely dodged the Big One two weekends ago. For the two of you that havent heard (Grape Vine working Good) I got severe chest pains on arriving at our daughters home in Fredericksburg, VA, on Thursday, Aug 27^th, and went straight to the ER. After tests they decided that I probably had NOT suffered a heart attack but did think the pain was cardiac related and recommended I stay in the hospital and have a catheterization and possible stents the next morning. I had what most said was one of the best Catheterization specialists doing the procedure, but as soon as he saw the dye test he said, Nope, open heart. I said, Shit! He said Yes, but you came to a good bathroom. We have one of the best heart guys around. Hes almost as good as I am! I thought, No loss of self-esteem here! (On checking he really is one of the leading Cardiologists in the country!)

Our youngest grandchild, Becca, had her 3^rd birthday party Saturday morning and then they all came to my room for a replay minus the swimming pool. The nurses all gave me a rough time for the Tiara picture. Little do they know! The hard part was then waiting until Monday. Lots of things go through your mind at 2 am.

Anyway, after waiting all weekend I finally had surgery on Monday. The bad news was 100 % blockage in one artery and 60 90 % in three others. The good news was ZERO damage to the heart itself and the grafts went very well. Short story is three grafts using three arteries, one from under the sternum and one from each arm. The fourth blockage was of little or no consequence so it was not done.

I was not a happy camper Monday night and Tuesday morning, but it has been a speedy recovery from then on. (Picture below was made 5 days after surgery.) The biggest problem has been with getting my breathing back. We checked out of the hospital on Friday, after surgery on Monday, and stayed at our daughters home in Fredericksburg until this morning. The munchkins were very good about not jumping on Grampa and Shirley and Shannon were good nurses.

I thank all of you for your concerns, cards, prayers, flowers, and visits. I would like to express special thanks to Cliff & Patti for agreeing to take over as group leaders for the Costa Rica trip at the last minute. I know they were looking forward to a trip where they could just relax and have fun. Also special thanks to Tom & Joy Fox for tracking down our shipment of goodies for Costa Rica and redirecting the shipment. And all you special nurses that promised me such specialized care in your Hottie outfits, I thank you very much and I WILL hold you to your most generous promises, as well as other things!

My surgeon, who has a very dignified and suave demeanor, has proved to be every bit as good as advertised. He also showed a bit of humor that the nurses had not seen before. On Wednesday, before check out on Friday, I kept getting glances of faces looking into my room and then disappearing. I asked my nurse what was going on and she giggled, Theyre just looking to see who it is that got such crazy orders posted on his chart. Seems that since Shirley and I were giving him a hard time on when sex would be ok he had decided to get even and wrote on my chart: Oral Sex Three times daily! Im not sure if the orders were for Shirley or the nurses, but they should all be fired! None of them carried out their orders!

Anyway, I think all is going about as well as can be expected and we plan on making Halloween. I kept pushing for Costa Rica, but the surgeon and the Warden said no way! We have heard from our Bares there, however, and all seem to be having a great time.

Sad news indeed, I learned today that Kathy Dion the wife of George Dion of the Fat Cats passed away in her sleep on 9/11 this last week. Jim Sharkey update

Hey to all of you,

I am so relieved that today is over. I feel pretty much brain dead myself but just wanted to

update you on Jim's status. I hope you got my messages or heard by way of the Bare grapevine that his surgery is over and went well.

He was in the operating room for over five hours and the surgeon was able to complete

three by-passes. After the doctor talked to Shannon and me, we had to wait about an hour more before they let us in to see Jim in ICU. Even though they had tried to prepare us for how he would look, it was still a shock. There were tubes running in and out of everything, he was not awake and very pale and swollen. He did squeeze my hand when I told him I was there, so I think he knew it was me. The breathing tube was still in his throat so he couldn't talk, even if he had been awake. I asked him if it hurt and he nodded, but the nurse said she couldn't give him any more pain medicine until they got his blood pressure up.

They made us leave after about an hour and said I could come back tomorrow morning

after 8:00. We just now called the nurses' station to get an update and found that he is

awake, off the ventilator and breathing on his own, heart is beating normally and he is not in too much pain, so maybe now I will sleep better. If all continues to go as it should, he will be moved to a regular room on second floor tomorrow.

We are just so thankful that the surgery was a success, and that they discovered these blockages in time. His doctor says he should have a good recovery, (even though this week will be difficult.)

Re: Gunnison Beach, Sandy Hook Is Open

Gunnison Beach was temporarily closed on Tuesday due to a chlorine leak at a sewage plant not far away. I spoke with the Ranger Station this morning and they report all has been repaired and Gunnison Beach is open. See you all at the Reunion!

Reunion Virgins

Going to the Hedo Reunion for the first time?
Although this is the Hedo Reunion it is not All Inclusive! Remember to bring the following to the beach:
Water
Sun Screen
Food
Beach chair, towel or beach blanket
Hedonites are generally a sharing group but it's always a good idea to cover your own basic needs.
There are no trash cans on the beach and the rule is "if you bring it on, take it off" so be prepared to take your own trash off the beach.

Our Rasta Bare AKA Louie

Many may already know this but this is the latest update. Rasta Bare AKA Louie was recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. According to his report the cancer has taken up residence in his jaw. Louie had been going through many testing sessions and treatment prep sessions in the past weeks to reach a diagnosis and find out what the course of treatment will be for him. He is in good spirits and has a positive attitude in his favor along with a great medical team. This along with our support and our good wishes and good vibes he will be back partying with us at the end of his once every three week treatment for six months. Treatments will begin around the 23rd of July. Maybe if all goes well, and the cancer is arrested they will cut back on a scheduled treatment. Good Luck, Louie! We will all be rooting for you! Bubbly Bares, be sure to let Louie know he has your support often since this challenge will be most difficult for our long time Bubbly Bare and dear friend.
